"Toilets Making the Grade®" calls on schools to actively engage, establish "Toilet Teams," and generate creative ideas to turn school toilets into comfortable spaces. The competition is supported by prominent sponsors such as Domestos, Knorr-Bremse Global Care e. V., Villeroy & Boch, the WEPA Foundation, and the TOOLS FOR LIFE Foundation.
Conducted by the German Toilet Organization (GTO), a nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental protection and improving overall health through clean and sustainable toilet and wastewater systems, the competition is organized as part of their efforts. In collaboration with the Federal Student Council and the Federal Parents' Council, the GTO aims to enhance toilets and washrooms in schools throughout Germany.
Participating schools have the opportunity to submit their concepts for an improved toilet landscape on the competition portal www.toiletten-machen-schule.de. Attractive prizes, including cash prizes and awards for enhancing sanitary facilities, with a total value exceeding €50,000, are up for grabs. The competition commences on January 10, 2024, with the submission deadline on April 23, 2024, and the award ceremony scheduled for June 18, 2024.
