Jagori Rural Charitable Trust
Our HERO 2017 is the Indian women's rights organization Jagori Rural Charitable Trust, which is committed to a fairer society. The HERO is an award presented by the TOOLS FOR LIFE Foundation, which recognizes social commitment every year and supports organizations with funds from the “Donations instead of gifts” campaign of foundation-related companies.
On July 23, 2018, three representatives of the women's rights organization Jagori Rural Charitable Trust visited the TEC Center in Kelkheim, the headquarters of the TOOLS FOR LIFE Foundation. Dr. Sandra Rothenberger, 1st Chairwoman of the foundation, and Philipp Kannengießer, CEO of ROTHENBERGER AG, presented Abha Bhaiya, co-founder of the organization, with the HERO 2017 cheque.
The Jagori Rural Charitable Trust was honored with the HERO Award for its exceptional social commitment and received a total of 12,000 euros, including 8,000 euros in prize money from HERO and 4,000 euros in additional donations. These funds will go directly to educational projects for young people in the rural state of Himachal Pradesh in northern India. In this mountainous region, around 60 women and men work in 150 villages and support around 25,000 people with these projects.
During the award ceremony, Abha Bhaiya, Chanter Kanta and Anoop Kumar presented the work and goals of the organization. Jagori Rural Charitable Trust works intensively to bring about change in India's patriarchal society, including through so-called women's courts. These courts offer help to people affected by violence by organizing talks between the victim, the perpetrator, the family and, if necessary, government agencies. In most cases, these discussions lead to successful and lasting solutions.
The TOOLS FOR LIFE Foundation has been supporting projects run by the Jagori Rural Charitable Trust since 2015.
