Current situation:
At the Youchaou Professional Center in Mali, a training course for young people in the fields of drilling and plumbing was launched. This initiative responded to the urgent need to train qualified professionals in these fields in order to meet the growing demand for sanitation and water resource management.
The initial situation shows a large gap between the need for a well-trained workforce and the available resources in terms of education and skills. Particularly in rural areas such as Kalabancoro and the village of Niamana, there is a shortage of skilled workers who are able to install and maintain borehole and sanitation systems as well as PV systems professionally.
Our measures:
From September 11 to 22, 2023, a workshop for young people from rural areas in the field of solar technology took place at the Youchaou Professional Center. The workshop, organized by Sterntaler für Afrika e.V., was funded by TOOLS FOR LIFE with €5,000.
A 12-day training course was organized to counteract this shortage. The training was designed to provide the participants with in-depth knowledge and practical skills in the areas of drilling and sanitary installation as well as PV system installation.
A diverse methodology was used, combining theoretical sessions with practical exercises. The training modules covered various aspects, including electricity, solar energy, installation and maintenance of plumbing systems and occupational safety. Participants were actively involved in the learning process and regularly assessed to monitor their progress.
At the end, the successful participants received certificates confirming their competence in this area. These measures aimed to strengthen the participants' skills and self-confidence while meeting the need for qualified professionals in the fields of drilling and plumbing installation and PV system installation.
Conclusion:
The training was a success and enabled the participants to gain valuable knowledge and practical skills. They expressed their gratitude to the donors and expressed their desire for further training at a higher level. Youchaou Professional Center and its partners remain committed to supporting and encouraging the learners' development.

My TOOLS FOR LIFE staff trip to Senegal in 2012 was a unique experience. And the fact that I was standing on a meadow where today, after only two years, there is a school for several hundred pupils, which the Foundation helped to finance, is almost unbelievable. Great cause and great projects that make a little bit of a difference in the world.
